Winter 2024 Updates

Sare's been busy (and finally doing an update!)

At the end of 2023, Sare became a member artist of Workman Arts: "a multidisciplinary arts organization that promotes a greater understanding of mental health and addiction issues through creation and presentation". Through this membership, Sare will have access to training opportunities, space to work and create, and more.

In Dec 2023, Sare directed the fifth sold-out run of A CHRISTMAS CAROL at the historic Campbell House Museum. Met with praise from the press and public alike, it was a joy to return to this landmark venue with this unique adaptation.

In the summer of 2023, Sare and circus artist Tamara Salpeter were finally able to use their grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to hold the second workshop phase of their theatre/circus piece AMERICAN TRADITIONAL, exploring the life of tattoo artist and circus performer Maud          Wagner. Joined by fellow theatre/circus artists Zita Nyarady and Emily Hughes, they put Sare and Tamara's original script on its feet and re-worked the text while incorporating circus and physical elements. Keep up to date with this project as it progresses on Instagram

Spring 2023 Updates

Sare recently participated in VideoCabaret's Black Box Sessions: a workshop series where artists experimented with scripts by Deanne Taylor and Michael Hollingsworth in the company's signature black box style.

Sare made their drag debut at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre's QueerCab 2 in April! Their drag persona is Gustav, and you can follow his exploits on Instagram

Winter 2023 Updates

It's been a busy few months!

A CHRISTMAS CAROL  returned in full to the Campbell House Museum in Dec 2022, once again selling out the entire run with Sare at the helm as director.

Sare took part in Talk is Free Theatre's Digital Theatre Creation workshop, part of their Theatre Artist Training Program.

SLIP, the upcoming series Sare has a small part in, will be airing on Roku starting April 21! Created, directed by, and starring  Zoe Lister-Jones and produced by Dakota Johnson, the series had its premiere in March 2023 at SXSW. Watch the trailer now!

Back On Camera

In the summer of 2021, Sare booked a couple of on-camera roles: a member of a rival softball team on season 2 of SLO PITCH, and a PSA for Smart Serve. Season 2 of SLO PITCH will air in 2022.

Canada Council Grant for AMERICAN TRADITIONAL

Sare and circus artist Tamara Salpeter have received a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to further develop their original theatre/circus hybrid work AMERICAN TRADITIONAL, which explores the life of Maud Wagnera circus performer who became the first known woman tattoo artist in the US in the early 1900s. Sarah and Tamara began creating this work in 2018, with the help of an Ontario Arts Council Recommender Grant (recommended by Volcano Theatre). Stay up-to-date with this project on Instagram

Working From Home During Covid-19 Lockdowns

Sare has been able to use their skills as a performer to work as a standardized patient and client, helping post-secondary students and up-and-coming professionals in various fields work on their communication and interpersonal skills.

Anti-Racism Work

As a white person, Sare recognizes that they are complicit in and benefit from systemic racism and white supremacy. Over the last year, they have been taking part in anti-racism and anti-oppression courses and engaging in independent research to further their knowledge of systemic racism, particularly in the arts industry. For fellow theatre artists, Sare highly recommends taking part in Nicole Brewer's Anti-Racist Theatre course
